The Position

Disease Control Specialists perform a variety of epidemiological investigations and surveillance activities related to the identification, control and reporting of communicable, infectious and chronic diseases.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

This position is located at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs, NV. The Disease Control Specialist 3 is responsible for managing risks associated with communicable and chronic diseases by investigating their causes and sources, responding to outbreaks, and controlling the spread of diseases. This involves identifying at-risk groups, carriers, and sources of diseases to implement preventative measures and reduce risks. The DCS 3 is also tasked with conducting community interviews to gather information on disease transmission, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and developing projections and recommendations for treatment, immunizations, and preventative measures. In addition to risk management, the Disease Control Specialist 3 plays a critical role in community education by coordinating efforts to assist affected individuals and providing risk reduction training. The specialist will distribute health information through lectures, films, in-service training, and public information materials. The role includes managing statewide surveillance and statistical data to evaluate program effectiveness and develop comprehensive reports. The specialist must demonstrate strong work ethics, customer service, and communication skills, maintain safety practices, and display professionalism in all interactions. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, health science, biology, chemistry, physiology, medical technology, psychology, sociology or related field and two years of increasingly responsible experience in conducting epidemiological investigations and surveillance. This experience must have included participation in planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating communicable and/or chronic disease prevention programs and activities and preparing grant funding applications; OR one year of experience as a Disease Control Specialist II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
