The Position

Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.

Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action. The Division of Forestry's mission is to provide professional natural resource and wildland fire management services to enhance, conserve and protect forest, rangeland and watershed values, endangered plants, and other native flora. On rotation, this position is responsible for accounts payable and receivables, budget and expenditure tracking, the fiscal approval of purchase orders, payment vouchers, and billing claims for NDF's various budgets. This position will periodically rotate into the Accounting Process Coordinator assignment, and as such will be responsible for: the review and fiscal approval of travel authorizations & travel claims; assisting program staff with the operation of E-Pro; assisting in budget reconciliation; administration and tracking of procurement and travel cards; and maintenance of the NDF fiscal chart of accounts. This position will be periodically required to work within the Incident Business Unit (IBU) on rotation. In addition to the standards of this class and the above stated duties, IBU duties include: input, reconciliation and auditing of the Division's fire reporting and billing database, contact with stakeholder groups to gather fire cost information, communicating complex policies and procedures, and assisting the Incident Business Specialist and Incident Accounting Specialist with assigned research projects.

To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of progressively responsible clerical accounting experience which included duties such as responsibility for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and/or other accounting data; setting up computer spreadsheets to record, track, organize and report data; researching and interpreting financial data to prepare reports and respond to budget and accounts related inquiries; and reconciling accounts; OR one year of experience as an Accounting Assistant II in Nevada State service which included clerical accounting duties as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. This position requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment.
