The Position

Health Program Specialists plan, develop, implement and evaluate health services and activities; develop goals, objectives, program requirements and procedures; provide technical information regarding specialized health related conditions; and participate and provide support to various committees, advisory boards and other work groups.

The Division of Public and Behavioral Health, Women Infant and Children Program (WIC) is recruiting for a Health Program Trainee 1 (Underfill for a Health Program Specialist 1). This position is located in Carson City. Once trained, this position provides technical assistance and consultation in areas such as program administration, policy interpretation, and quality assurance to sub-granted agencies, clinics, and internal WIC staff. In addition, once trained, this position assists in the preparation of trainings, the annual Nevada WIC State Plan, and state and federal reports. This position will serve as a subject matter expert for WIC policies and procedures and WIC program reviews. The position will acquire extensive knowledge of applicable Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs) and must be able to convey current and potential policy and procedural changes to WIC stakeholders and Internal staff. Once trained, the position also provides technical assistance to sub-granted Local Agencies and clinics which provide direct WIC services to participants throughout Nevada. Significant knowledge of the NV WISH Management Information System (MIS) and the Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) system requirements must be attained within six months of employment. This position is vital in providing the support needed to WIC Local Agencies. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a public health, health science, social or behavioral science or closely related field applicable to the program area; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in a public health, health science, social or behavioral science, or closely related field applicable to the program area and one year of paraprofessional and/or technical health-related experience related to the program area to be trained; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes Pursuant to NRS 632, a Bachelor's degree from a school or professional nursing program approved by the State Board of Nursing is equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Special Requirements Some positions require a valid driver's license at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
