JOB SUMMARY

JOB SUMMARY
Supervises aquatic program; supervises lifeguard personnel. Given special duties to manage day to day operations of pool. Duties may include supervision of parties; supervision of swimming lessons; maintain pool (cleaning and handling chemicals).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assists the Aquatics Supervisor with the supervision of summer lifeguard employees about water safety, City policies and regulations.
  • Assists with the administration of swimming pool programs including swimming lessons, pool parties, and other activities. Helps set up and prepare area during special events.
  • Maintains pool and pool area including mechanical equipment, decks, and bathrooms. Conducts routine tests such as chemical levels; vacuums pool; backwashes; uses net to clean water surface; and picks up trash. Keeps log of test results and attends related training sessions as necessary.
  • Performs routine paperwork and maintains program files; keeps records of swimming lesson certificates; communicates needs of facility to Aquatic Supervisor; and compiles reports as needed.
  • Staffs front desk as needed; operates cash register, collects admission fees; answers telephone; prepares daily cash reports; enforces rules and regulations relating to swimming pool.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Communicates with the public, explains policies and identifies potentially dangerous behaviors.

DECISION MAKING
  • Uses judgment to coordinate activities and to act appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Assists in supervising pool staff; assigns duties, trains and in evaluating work performance.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Salary is dependent upon qualifications)

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • One (1) season of pool management experience and two seasons of lifeguard/swim instructor experience is required.
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record required.
  • Must be 17 years old.
  • Must have an American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification or be able to obtain the certification before start of summer season. (ARCL Certification class will be offered by City of San Marcos)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred.

JOB DIMENSIONS
Effective oral communication skills are required. Extensive contact with the public, must be able to interact in a courteous and professional manner. Basic calculations to balance cash receipts, measure chemicals, and check test results.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical requirements include working outdoors in heat, humidity and wind. Exposed to chlorine, muriatic acid and other pool chemicals. Navigates slippery surfaces; exposed to noise from crowds, whistles and pump room. Subject to standing, sitting, vision, hearing, talking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling reaching, handling, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, handling, foot controls, fine dexterity. Lift over 50lbs rarely. Must be able to complete Red Cross swimming requirements.
