The County Administrator’s Office has an exciting opportunity for an energetic person possessing a combination of business background and computer skills to help us develop, test, support, and utilize modern IT systems that support the strategic business goals of the County’s law and justice departments. Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) full-time permanent vacancy located in Martinez, CA.

Under the general direction of the Law & Justice Business Systems Manager, this position provides technical support and re-engineering activities for the development of large computer system implementation, integration, and monitoring projects within and between County justice departments, and perform related duties as assigned. County justice departments include the District Attorney, Public and Alternate Defender, and Probation Departments. The position also works in close collaboration with the Contra Costa Superior Court, Sheriff's Office, and local law-enforcement agencies.

What you will typically be responsible for:
  • Defining, developing, executing, and reporting of quality assurance tests (manual and automated) of software applications, reports, data, and data exchanges (interfaces with external systems)
  • Analyzing processes and problems and devising workable solutions including pro-active application monitoring, data quality, and alerts
  • Consulting with business partners and system users to understand needs and issues in order to recommend solutions within and between systems

The eligible list established from this recruitment may remain in effect for six (6) months.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in computer science or information processing or closely related field.

Experience: Three (3) years of full-time or its equivalent experience performing software applications programming or systems analysis.

Substitution for Education: Additional-qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, up to a maximum of four (4) years.

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience and proficiency with Git version control ( or equivalent industry tools ) , Microsoft Office (Word and Excel ideally with macros and VBA), application message brokers/queues, and application monitors
  • Linux experience
  • Proficiency in SSRS and Telerik report development
  • Experience using Python, Bash, and MSSQL & MySQL scripting
  • Grit (passion and sustained persistence applied toward long-term achievement)
  • Mentor/Sharing: Coaching and mentoring others in areas of your expertise


Selection Process

Training and Experience Questionnaire: Candidates will be required to complete a training and experience questionnaire at the time of filing. The responses to the training and experience questions on the supplemental questionnaire will be used to evaluate candidates r elevant education, training and/or experience as it relates to the Information Systems Programmer and Analyst III (Law and Justice Information Systems Programmer Analyst III) Classification. (Weighted 100%)
