The Library is seeking to hire an outgoing, creative, full-time Library Assistant for the Education and Outreach Team. The ideal candidate is customer-focused, enthusiastic about bringing library services to the community, and comfortable working with diverse populations including people of all ages, backgrounds, dispositions, and abilities. The purpose of this position is to execute dynamic educational and community outreach events through strategic partnerships.

The Library Assistant’s job responsibilities include:
  • Provides friendly, efficient, and professional service to partners both internal and external.
  • Maintain community and educational partnerships through data collection.
  • Conducting community outreach, including processing new library accounts and replacing library cards at outreach events.
  • Planning and delivering partnership programs, workshops, and classes both in the library and in the community.
  • Developing library outreach displays and merchandising materials to showcase the Library’s materials, programs, and special events.
  • Championing the Library’s strategic goals and initiatives with the system’s mission, vision, and core values in mind.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related field.

OR

An Associate’s Degree plus four (4) additional years of relevant job experience, or a High School Diploma or GED plus eight (8) additional years of relevant job experience will be accepted as a substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to work at/travel to various locations.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least two years of progressively responsible customer service experience.
  • At least one year of experience working in a library and/or outreach setting.
  • Previous experience developing and presenting programs, workshops, and classes.
  • Ability to communicate with customers in Spanish.

Physical Demands:

While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
