Job Description

Introduction

Works in a civilian capacity to procure, distribute and maintain fire/medical equipment, personal protective clothing, portable radios and other communication equipment, performing equipment maintenance and repair tasks of small motors, air systems, portable radio and communication equipment, and equipment for the Fire Department.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in inventory management.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience with repairing and maintaining Self Contained Breathing Apparatus ("SCBA's"), valves, regulators and small equipment.
    • Budget experience.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • May be required to obtain manufacturer's and factory certifications in the maintenance and repair of SCBA and Rescue Tools within one year of hire or promotion.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.


Essential Functions

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
  • Installs, maintains, tests and performs minor repairs on two-way radio equipment
  • Performs troubleshooting of all radio communications and base stations to determine the proper contracted agent to respond to repair equipment.
  • Works with technicians from City of Scottsdale Radio Group, Regional Wireless Consortium (RWC) and Motorola System Engineers to ensure all facets of the trunked radio system are in proper working order.
  • Maintains the Fire Department wireless communication equipment inventory on all assigned assets.
  • Manages the requisition, storage, and distribution of fire equipment and personal protective equipment for the Department. Plans, coordinates and/or handles the repair of damaged equipment, facilitates the issuance and maintains inventories of all equipment. Coordinates the issuance/retrieval of employee equipment. Facilitates and coordinates the annual departmental equipment inventory.
  • Negotiates, monitors and administers the department equipment contracts. Audits invoices; serves as liaison with vendors; investigates complaints.
  • Maintains SCBA test equipment and performs SCBA fit testing to meet OSHA regulations.


Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Perform tasks involving moderate and sometimes considerable physical exertion, including moving objects and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Detect traffic sounds when working near moving equipment including backup warning devices.
  • Distinguish colors to work with various electrical wiring and color-coded sizing of critical parts on fire service equipment, sometimes including SCBA's.
  • Visual and muscular dexterity to operate, maintain and repair power-driven machinery such as gas powered saws, ventilation fans and rescue tools to test operation.
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer terminal, telephone, 10-key calculator, copy and fax machine requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement.
  • Travel to/from various City locations.
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle.
