THE CITY

Culver City is a Charter City incorporated in 1917, and is a destination filled with outdoor cafes, unique shops and galleries opening onto pedestrian-friendly boulevards. Culver City has a dedicated staff of approximately 700+ employees with an overall operating budget of over $238 million. The City provides a full range of municipal services including Fire, Police, Community Development, Public Works, Parks, Recreation, and Community Services, and Transportation.

THE DEPARTMENT:
The
Police Department has a complement of just over 100 sworn and 48 civilian personnel serving a residential population of 40,000 and an estimated daily commercial population of over 200,000

THE POSITION

JAILER (FULL-TIME, BENEFITED)

Under general supervision, processes the admission and release of persons in custody including preparing booking reports and release forms, fingerprinting, photographing, searching and safeguarding property entrusted to their care. Supervises and cares for persons in custody including regular inspections to identify and control problems, quell disturbances, render first aid, and protect the safety and rights of inmates. Ensures inmate and jail facility hygiene is maintained. Controls visits and contact with inmates. Transports and escorts persons in custody to and from other locations such as courts and other incarceration facilities in a safe and secure manner. Supervises the serving of food to inmates. Supervises trustees assigned to custodial maintenance of the jail and other related work activities. Checks all deliveries made to the jail to ensure contraband is not contained in any packages and ensures that the delivery of the package has been properly approved by his/her superiors. Prepares accurate and concise reports on problems with inmates, crimes that occur in the jail, and follows up on these reports. Prepares a daily log. May be required to carry City authorized non-lethal weapons. Performs other related duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities would be: High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of work experience involving public contact.

Work Schedule:

May be required to work shifts which include nights, weekends and holidays.

License & Certificate

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of hire. Must obtain first aid/CPR certificates within 6 months of hire and obtain any job-related certificates required by the State of California.
