The Position

The City Council has approved a 3.3% cost of living adjustment (COLA) for all eligible employees of the City of Portland for the fiscal year, effective from July 1, 2024. As a result, the salary for this position may increase due to the approved COLA.

Job Appointment: Full-Time, regular appointment. This position can be adjusted to part-time if that better suits the candidate's needs . We are committed to accommodating flexible work arrangements.
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri. 8-5, a lthough there is some schedule flexibility, the position is FLSA non-exempt and must typically be scheduled to work during the scheduled board meetings twice a month.

Join our team at the City Budget Office as a Portland Utility Board (PUB) Coordinator and help support and advocate for the PUB!

Position Summary:
The Portland Utility Board (PUB) Coordinator provides planning, administration, communications, and coordination functions in support of the PUB. The position is housed in the City Budget Office (CBO) but is dedicated to actively monitor, support, and advocate on behalf of the PUB, which is a public oversight body of the City’s utility services provided by the Portland Water Bureau and the Bureau of Environmental Services. The ideal candidate for the PUB Coordinator role is detail-oriented, adaptable, possesses strong interpersonal skills and has a strong interest in public service.

What you'll get to do:
  • Work in coordination with a part-time PUB Analyst to support the board.
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the PUB by providing logistical support for meetings, including agendas, minutes, and other administrative duties.
  • Provide general coordination and communications.
  • Develop and track progress on agreed-upon work plan goals and performance metrics.
  • Coordinate new member recruitment and training.
  • Provide support for other board duties and tasks as needed.

The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
1. Knowledge of principles, practices and methods of event planning, public notice requirements, and community outreach activities.

2. Skill in customer service and conflict resolution.

3. Ability to communicate clearly, logically, and persuasively, both verbally and in writing; prepare concise and comprehensive reports, correspondence and other documents.

4. Ability to exercise independent judgment, problem-solve, and take initiative within established procedures and guidelines.

5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with bureau/office managers and staff, representatives of other governmental agencies, the public, and others encountered in the course of work.

6. Ability to collaborate with communities of color and people traditionally underrepresented in local decision-making; facilitate inclusive participation in programs and activities; communicate cross-culturally.
