San Bernardino County invites qualified professionals to apply for the position of Psychiatric Technician I. Psychiatric Technicians I assist professional staff with the care of severely mentally ill, emotionally disturbed, or mentally disabled patients. Duties include providing nursing, custodial, and personal care to patients; dispensing medications; evaluating and reporting patients' behavior; recognizing changes in behavior; planning and participating in various kinds of rehabilitation, occupational, recreational and group activities; and transporting patients to and from treatments and assisting in determining patient discharge, based on observation.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Background Investigation: Applicants selected for these positions must pass an extensive background investigation, as well as verification of employment history. Employment may be denied to applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony in the following areas: crimes of violence, domestic violence and drug related offenses.

Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required for some positions. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

Working Conditions: The work environment may involve exposure to assaultive and combative patients, hazardous and infectious materials and communicable diseases.

Physical Requirements: Frequent sitting, occasional walking, standing, bending, and reaching above and below shoulder level and carrying up to 10 pounds.

Work Schedule: Applicants must be available to work all shifts including day, swing, night, rotating, weekends and holidays.

Minimum Requirements

License: Must possess and maintain a Psychiatric Technician's license with the state of California.

--AND--

Certification: Must possess and maintain Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support certification.

Note: Psychiatric Technicians assigned to inpatient hospital settings must possess and maintain an active and non-expired Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification. Indicate your level of certification in the Supplemental Questionnaire.

Desired Qualifications

Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required to receive additional compensation.

Candidates with experience as a Psychiatric Technician in an acute mental health setting and current Management of Assaultive Behavior certification are desired.
