Salary: Up to $59.13 based on education and experience

Full Time /Part Time: Part-time

Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday (variable)

Primary Hours: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm (variable)

Position Description:

OSDH Pharmacy functions as a repackage and wholesale distributor for OSDH Service Programs to supply county health departments and mobile units. The Pharmacy repackages medications into unit-of - issue packaging and orders, receives, stores, tracks, and distributes pharmaceutical and medical supplies for 68 County Health Departments and two independent City County Health Departments. The pharmacist fills prescription orders from OSDH physicians for Direct Observation Therapy (DOT) to treat active or latent tuberculosis (TB) and provides consultation and formulary review for Service Programs.

Duties:
  • Prepare and monitors pharmacy budget.
  • Ensures proper monetary flow from Maternal Child Health, Acute Disease, STD/HIV, Immunization, Screening & Special Services, and Injury Prevention Departments of Oklahoma State Department of Health.
  • Prepares orders and invoices, manages pharmaceuticals, medical supplies and vaccine inventory for Maternal Child Health, Acute Disease, STD/HIV, Immunization, Screening & Special Services, Nursing Service, and Injury Prevention Departments
  • Maintain a process to track 340B drugs by their National Drug Code (NDC) from manufacturer purchase to state pharmacy warehouse and then to OSDH-covered entities and contracted entities.
  • Supervise pharmacy, assign and evaluates work, develops policy and procedures for staff and pharmacy operations. Counsel pharmacy staff regarding work performance and development; takes disciplinary actions as appropriate.
  • Supervise pharmacy support staff on preparing and filling medication orders for patients in the County Health Department.
  • Consult with TB physicians and nurses regarding TB patients. Prepare, fill, and check medication orders using PHIDDO, faxes, and emails for TB patients to ship out to County Health Departments daily and as needed.
  • Participate in 340B compliance and regulatory committee and assist Director of Nursing and 340B Project Coordinator with program integrity.
  • Participate with other OSDH department managers to create and manage a statewide inventory system.
  • Ensures that all required state and federal licenses related to OSDH Pharmacy operations are kept current and in good standing.
  • Participate in statewide training exercises for a bio-terrorism event. Participate in Strategic National Stockpile training. Participates on an assessment team for the Strategic National Stockpile with CDC. Participates in quarterly Maternal Child Health meetings to review medications, quantities used at the county level and cost-effective therapies.
  • Participates in TB Nurse Training to review pharmacy procedures and processes pertaining to TB.
  • All other duties assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Requirements consist of possession of a valid license as a Pharmacist in the State of Oklahoma, graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor of science (BS) in Pharmaceutical Science or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, and experience equivalent to two years of full-time responsible work as a pharmacist

Preferred Qualifications:

Basic knowledge of maintaining budgets and inventory control, state laws and regulations pertaining to legal operation of the pharmacy including storage, repackaging and shipping medications. Ability to learn and apply principles and practices of supervision, prioritize and evaluate the work of others, use of effective communication skills to establish and maintain working with county health departments and other staff, maintain accurate records and documents, and maintain confidential information.

Valued Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of direct observed therapy (DOT). Management and inventory skills. Communication skills to be able to talk with internal and external partners.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Must be able to lift more than 25 lbs. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to work with pallet jack and packing materials.

Telework: This position is not eligible for Telework and is subject to OSDH policy and supervisor’s discretion.
