A Sr. Warrant/Identification Technician position is available with the City of Fort Worth Police Department. As a City of Fort Worth Police Department employee, the incumbent will contribute to the City’s strategic goals, mission and vision by leading, overseeing and participating in the more complex and difficult work of employees responsible for providing a wide variety of support services involving classifying, maintaining and researching identification records and files. The ideal candidate will also provide fingerprints, criminal histories, warrant confirmations and other law enforcement related needs to customers, police officers and other law enforcement agencies.

This is a 24/7-hour operation that requires working weekends, holidays and overtime as necessary. This position will involve extensive customer service with law enforcement, governmental entities and the general public.

This is a second shift position and will require the candidate to work 3 pm - 11 pm with Sunday and Monday as regular scheduled off days.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma.
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible clerical or records maintenance experience.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Must pass an extensive background check, polygraph examination, pre-employment drug screen and a CJIS fingerprint background check.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a law enforcement or military environment.
  • Knowledge of basic ten print fingerprint comparisons.
  • Experience in LiveScan electronic fingerprint machine or rolling inked fingerprint impressions.

The Sr. Warrant/Identification Technician job responsibilities include:
  • Monitor the performance of the Warrant/ID Techs to ensure policies and procedures are being followed.
  • Monitor, correct and report arrest information to the Texas Department of Public Safety in a timely, efficient manner with 90 percent accuracy; update arrest information in the state’s CJIS electronic system.
  • Manage, monitor, and participate in the ID Unit’s daily shift operations. Duties include but are not limited to processing, filing, and maintaining jail paperwork and search warrants; processing, filing, confirming, and maintaining protective orders and probable cause warrants.
  • Provide customer service to the general public, fingerprint services, criminal history checks and clearance letters; provide customer service to law enforcement and government agencies.
  • Monitor time and attendance, approve leave time and oversee shift coverage.
  • Trains newly hired Identification Technicians in all aspects of the ID Unit’s operations to include the SOP; provide yearly performance appraisals on assigned ID staff.
  • Act as custodian of record and perform other related duties upon request.

Working Conditions

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
