For more information about SJC, visit http://www.flysanjose.com .San José Mineta International Airport is hiring for an Accountant I/II. The incumbent of this position, under the general supervision of a Senior Accountant, will assist with the implementation of new Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, the preparation of financial reports for various Airport funds, and the proper accounting of the Airport's capital assets. The Accountant will have a key role in the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and must ensure compliance with City-wide fiscal policies and procedures and governmental accounting and financial reporting standards for financial transactions.

Assigned duties will include:
  • Assist with new GASB pronouncement implementations and ongoing compliance with GASB pronouncements
  • Analyze financial transactions and prepare monthly profit and loss reports
  • Review ongoing and new fixed asset projects to determine proper accounting treatment
  • Participate in the yearly fixed asset verification process
  • Review surplus forms
  • Posts payments and reoccurring journal entries to the City's accounting system, Financial Management System (FMS) and the Airport's billing system (PROPworks)
  • Collect lost and found cash at least quarterly
  • Calculate outside billing rates at least once a year
  • Assist with the year-end close process and preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, including but not limited to:
    • Prepare fund lead-sheets
    • Prepare fund trial balances
    • Upload balances to Caseware (Financial Statements Software)
    • Map accounts in Caseware
    • Prepare fixed asset footnote/reconciliations
    • Prepare schedule of transfers for consolidation
    • Upload audit schedules
    • Post the signed ACFR and other financial reports as needed to the Airport's website
  • Assist with the State Controller reports
  • Collaborate with the Finance and Budget teams
  • Assist with updating policies and procedures as needed
  • Assist with ad-hoc reports and tasks
The final candidate's qualifications and experience shall determine the actual salary. In addition to the starting salary, employees in this classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay, which is included in the range below.

The Accountant I salary range is $84,630.00 - $102,931.92 annually.
The Accountant II salary range is $92,383.20 - $112,279.44 annually.

Education and Experience

Accountant I

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting or related field, which must include twelve (12) semester units in accounting subjects.

Accountant II

Completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting or related field, which must include eighteen (18) semester units in accounting subjects AND two (2) years of progressively responsible accounting or auditing experience.

Acceptable Substitution

Accountant I

Experience in the maintenance of financial records, systems or transactions may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. There will be no substitution for the twelve (12) semester units in accounting subjects.

Required Licensing
Possession of a valid driver's license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in California.

The candidate must be fingerprinted and qualify under all applicable TSA and Airport regulations.
