POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION

The GIS Technician (Temporary) position is a full-time, benefited temporary position (up to three years). This position provides GIS/GPS expertise to advance the goals of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Libraries. The work involves performing basic to advanced GIS procedures including data collection, editing, analysis and cartography. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, performing fieldwork with GPS equipment, working with subject matter experts to collect, update and maintain GIS data, creating maps, conducting research, and performing GIS analysis on existing data. The PRL GIS Technician (Temporary) will support all teams within the Park, Recreation and Libraries department with a focus on the Parks and Open Space division.

This position will work for the the Operations Division housed within the Department of Parks, Recreation and Libraries. The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The City of Westminster has a Multilingual Stipend Program to encourage and reward benefited employees who are conversationally fluent in languages other than English. Benefited employees have the opportunity to test their language proficiency skills and qualify for a bi-weekly stipend that will vary based on the employee’s level of proficiency and usage.

May be tasked with assisting users in other divisions within Parks Recreation and Libraries as the need arises Incumbent is accountable for all duties of this job, and other projects and responsibilities may be added at the City’s discretion.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications
Required :
  • Must meet at least one of the following education requirements:
  • Two year college degree or equivalent with a major in GIS Technology, or
  • Certificate in GIS Technology and two years experience, or
  • Four year college degree in a related field, or
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience in the field of GIS
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record
Preferred :
  • Four year college degree in a related field or a majority of progress toward four year degree
  • Experience working in the field of Natural Resources
  • Use and knowledge of ArcGIS Online/Portal, ArcGIS Pro, ArcCollector/Fieldmaps
  • Experience working in an SDE Environment
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, which would provide the required knowledge and skills, may be considered.
Physical Requirements
Work requires sufficient physical stamina and strength for:
  • Constant sitting to perform daily tasks; frequent standing, sometimes for extended periods; frequent walking, sometimes for extended periods
  • Frequent squatting, reaching above shoulder, and twisting to file documents and lift supplies and material; occasional bending, kneeling, climbing, balancing, and reaching below shoulder to store documents, material, and supplies
  • Constant light grasp, fine manipulation, and handling to perform daily duties; occasional firm grasp to safely use equipment
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, and pushing and/or pulling of up to ten (10) pounds to move material and supplies; occasional lifting, pushing and/or pulling of up to twenty-five (25) pounds with dollies and carts

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed indoors and outdoors. This work consists of office and field activity. Must demonstrate the ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including the ability to retrieve information from various locations in the office when needed, and to drive and walk through various areas of the City. Exposure to periods of high activity and stress under demanding conditions. The position requires a great deal of communication with City employees, the public, and outside agencies.
