Position will end on or before June 30, 2025. Permanent status cannot be earned in this grant funded position. This Temporary appointment can be concluded prior to the stated temporary appointment end date, normally with a two-week notice period. Continuation of this temporary appointment is contingent upon grant funding.

Monday through Friday; from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Anticipated Hiring Range

$3,640.00 to $3,822.00 Per Month ($43,680.00 to $45,864.00 Annually)

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Principal Investigator, the Lab Coordinator will be responsible for coordination of data collection and some analysis by student insider researchers (SIIRs and CAT). This involves collection of biospecimens, biomarker measurements, and conducting some of qualitative research for the Photovoice project. This will include, but is not limited to, maintaining HER lab function, , a core SF BUILD lab. The candidate will conduct molecular assays, some analysis, maintain communications with participants, preparing dissemination materials for stakeholders and reporting finds to the PI and research team.

Position Information

Lab Coordination and Biospecimen Work:
  • Maintain lab function (e.g., ordering of supplies and their pick up from stockroom, reconciliation of Pcard).
  • Support collection and processing of biospecimens, focusing on cortisol assays.
  • Ensure compliance with lab policies, biosafety regulations, and standards.
  • Maintain critical laboratory equipment to ensure its proper functioning.
  • Organize and facilitate lab meetings and collaborate with students and other team members.
  • Keep the lab space organized and clean. Maintain relationships with biotech companies for lab supply and equipment procurement.

Photovoice Work:
  • Maintain communications with Photovoice team.
  • Present outreach information to eligible study participants.
  • Attend Photovoice team meetings, and events.
  • Participate in data analysis.

Dissemination:
  • Report results of biospecimen assays to the research team.
  • Collaborate with Photovoice and Healing Justice teams to report results to stakeholder communities
  • Contribute to manuscript development for journal submission.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledges and Abilities:

Working knowledge of research techniques and the methods of preparation of research reports; working knowledge of statistical principles and procedures, including methods of frequency series, data, simple correlation methods, sampling techniques, and construction of index numbers.

Ability to assist in preparation of questionnaires, gathering and analyzing qualitative research data, and in compiling data for reports and summaries in tabular, graphic, and pictorial form; ability to prepare clear and concise reports; ability to analyze situations accurately and to adopt an effective course of action; ability to speak and write effectively.

Experience:

One year of experience in technical research or community-engaged research.

Education:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university, including or supplemented by a course in statistics.

Additional experience which has demonstrated that the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledges and abilities delineated above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant research techniques, data collection, and research report preparation.
  • Familiarity with sources of information on social, economic, and population trends in California.
  • Ability to develop questionnaires and survey instruments.
  • Proficiency in gathering, compiling, and analyzing research data and presenting it visually.
  • Strong report writing skills.
  • Capacity for independent and creative thinking and problem-solving.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and work closely with a small team.
  • Passionate about health equity and community engagement.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with diverse communities.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficient in creating Google Forms and Microsoft Excel.
  • Comfortable with social media and technology.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Fluent in English and at least one other language spoken in the target communities (Spanish, Tagalog, etc.).
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology or relevant discipline.
  • Prior experience conducting research relevant to local communities.
  • Proven experience of communicating science to the scientific community
