The Health Department's
Behavioral Health Bureau is seeking to fill a vacant
Medical Record Technician I for the Quality Services Management Team. This position will review authorization requests for disclosures of protected health information for current and former behavioral health clients through a review of the electronic medical record for all County and County contracted programs; and respond to public records requests, and subpoenas.
This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointed at the lower level of the career series may be promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and a recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority in accordance with the Flexible Staffing Program and Guidelines.
The Eligible List established by this recruitment process will be used to fill current and future vacancies, both regular and temporary, as they arise.
Examples of DutiesExamples of Duties:- Performs computer entry of analysis data, and updates/corrects information provided; edits and corrects other reports and date.
- Discusses recorded information and data with physicians and others to obtain additional information and ensure appropriate presentation.

Medical Record Technician I THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE Will have a proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Some Knowledge of:- Basic keyboard operations, and operation of other standard office equipment
Skill and Ability to:- Read, interpret and evaluate complex medical reports and information.
- Communicate tactfully and effectively with those contacted in the course of work.
- Maintain records; scan; corollate, validate documents and compile statistics.

Examples of Experience/Education/TrainingThe skills necessary may be acquired through various types of education, training, and/or experience, typically:
EITHER Education: Vocational or college level coursework in Health Information Management.
AND Experience: Two years of experience which has involved either work with Health information Management, such as transcription, or the analysis and evaluation of medical reports and information.
OR Education: Completion of a junior college, vocational school or equivalent program to Health Information Management.
OR Certificate: Completion of a junior college, vocational or equivalent program in Health Information Management.
Additional InformationREQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT- Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license or the ability to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority.
- Be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during times of disaster and/or emergency, travel out of County to attend meetings.
- Successfully complete a background check to include fingerprinting.
