Job SummaryThe City of Greenville seeks an experienced individual to the fill the position of Marketing and Community Risk Reduction Specialist in our Fire/Rescue Department. Under general direction of the Fire Marshal, this position will convey information to the public and manage the fire and life safety education programs for Greenville Fire/Rescue. This is accomplished by developing and maintaining community educational programs to reinforce fire and life safety behaviors and attitudes.
FLSA Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Examples of Duties- Develops, maintains, and presents comprehensive community educational programs and curriculum designed to establish and reinforce fire and life safety behaviors and attitudes;
- Serves as the community and departmental educator for the Safe Kids International Child Passenger Seat Technician Program;
- Manages and maintains the Code Red Smoke Alarm Program;
- Serves as a Public Information Officer for the Fire/Rescue Department which may include response to emergency scenes;
- Develops and maintains relationships with various forms of media to support the department;
- Recommends and assists in the preparation of a budget associated with marketing, risk reduction related events, and other special events;
- Researches, writes, and solicits grants related to fire prevention;
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum QualificationsEducation and Experience:- Associate's degree in Education, Communications, Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Fire Service Administration or related field; and
- Three (3) years of experience in these fields, including some public speaking experience.
Or
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Communications, Public Administration, Public Relations, Marketing, Fire Service Administration or related field; and
- One (1) year of experience in these fields, including some public speaking experience.
Preferred Qualifications: (Preferred qualifications at time of hire; must be obtained within 18 months of hire date and maintained throughout employment)- North Carolina Fire & Life Safety Educator III Certification.
- Youth Firesetting Intervention Specialist Certification.
- Safe Kids International Child Passenger Seat Technician Certification.
- Public Information Officer Certification through the National Fire Academy, the Emergency Management Institute, or another agency.
- American Red Cross CPR Certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of:- the sources and use of information about current fire prevention techniques.
- the laws and regulations covering fire prevention.
- the modern principles and techniques of fire prevention, including inspection, hazards, and elimination of dangerous conditions.

Special Requirements- Must possess and maintain a valid, current North Carolina driver's license that is not revoked, suspended, or subject to limited restoration or conditional operation privileges.
- Must have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
