Job Description

Position Summary

Under supervision of the College IT Lead, the IT Support Analyst will serve within the College of Health and Human Services as part of the IT Services and Support team. The Analyst will be responsible for IT support, user consultation, and guiding purchases of hardware and software. This position will focus on support for the faculty and staff within the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences and the School of Physical Therapy. This position will also assist in college (CHHS) and (when needed) campus wide initiatives around IT security mandates, inventory management of computing equipment and ad-hoc initiatives to streamline and improve technology processes.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The mission of the Information Technology Division is to develop the long-term infrastructure, services, and strategy necessary to support the University’s mission of learning, discovery, and engagement. The IT Division has the stewardship responsibility for core IT assets on campus and the obligation to provide the services, training, and community building necessary to realize the benefits of those investments across the San Diego State University community.

Within the IT Division, the IT Services and Support unit manages support across colleges and divisions. This position would be part of the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) and would provide endpoint support, IT consultation, quotes, and security management for systems primarily for the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences and the School of Physical Therapy program. When needed this role will also serve users across the college and collaborate with IT teams/groups throughout the SDSU community.

Education and Experience

To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.

Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field OR a minimum of four years of related experience
  • One or more years of experience providing academic technology support in a higher education setting.
  • Strong problem-solving skills - be able to bring suggestions and alternatives to technical problems.
  • Experience working in a service desk environment.

Licenses/Certifications Required
  • California driver’s license
  • Certification of completion of driver safety training as required by CSU Office of Risk Management must be obtained as soon as possible after hire date.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,334 per month.

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,899 - $7,506 per month.
