Minimum Qualifications
Power System Engineer:
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering, plus five (5) years of experience related to engineering.


Licenses and Certifications Required:
None.


Power System Engineer Senior:

  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering, plus seven (7) years of experience related to engineering.


Licenses or Certifications:

Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Texas; or if currently licensed in another state, the ability to obtain a Texas PE license within one (1) year of employment.

The Transmission & Distribution Engineering team at Austin Energy (AE) is seeking to fill an engineering position within the Distribution Protection team. The responsibilities of this position include performing feeder and device coordination studies, programming settings files for protection devices, and working with fault analysis software. The ideal candidates will be detail-oriented collaborative engineers who can analyze scenarios, make critical, technical, and complex recommendations, and implement changes in an electric utility environment.

This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon candidate qualifications:
  • Power System Engineer - ($41.70 to $54.21 per hour)
  • Power System Engineer Sr. - ($47.75 to $62.07 per hour)


This position has been designated as a Critical Employee position. Critical Employees are considered necessary and vital and supports activities that impact City or department operations. This work can be done while at a designated work site or while working at an alternate work location. Critical employees who are able to work at an alternative work location are required to do so. Schedules may be modified, and employees may be reassigned to another area during extraordinary situations or emergency conditions to provide essential services.

Hours
Monday - Friday
8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., with a flexible telework/in-office schedule.
  • Two days weekly at Mueller HQ, other Austin Energy locations, or service area sites as needed for meetings, trainings, events and site visits.
