Job Description

Pay Range: $22.02 - $27.52/hr.

***$2,000 Sign-On Incentive***

Workdays & Hours: This position offers a 4-day work week. Shift hours are 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday or 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Tuesday - Friday, depending on business needs. Overtime may be required.

The Journeyman Electrician is available with the City of Fort Worth Property Management, Facilities Division for renovation and remodeling of City owned facilities.

Candidates must have the ability to utilize appropriate tools in performing electrical duties, read and interpret blueprints and drawings, understand and apply electrical codes, follow written and verbal instructions, work in confined spaces, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., work at considerable heights, climb and work from ladders and scaffolding.

This position qualifies for the following incentive which is separate from the base pay:

$2,000 Sign-On Incentive: 50% paid after the completion of first pay period, 50% paid after the completion of 6 months of employment.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A High School Diploma required, or GED supplemented by specialized training in electrical or a related field
  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible electrician experience
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Preference may be given to applicants with commercial electrical experience.
  • Candidates must possess a valid Class "C" driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must possess a State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License, Master preferred.

The Journeyman Electrician job responsibilities include:
  • Performs maintenance and repair of all electrical and mechanical systems, except those requiring the attention of a licensed specialist.
  • Installs outlets and replaces switches, light bulbs and fixtures.
  • Monitors electrical and electronic equipment including air conditioning and heating systems.
  • Makes minor repairs to door hinges and locks.
  • Installs and implements new equipment and materials.

Working Conditions

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.

Physical Demands:

Heavy Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects. The position will require candidates to work from considerable heights and in confined spaces.
