SUMMARY OF POSITION
Monterey County Health Department (MCHD) has multiple vacancies available for the position of Community Service Aide III (CSA III) in the Administration Bureau, Planning, Evaluation and Policy (PEP) unit.

The Administration Bureau’s Planning, Evaluation, and Policy (PEP) Unit primarily works in three areas: facilitating the implementation of the Health Department’s Strategic Plan, aligning and monitoring the departments performance standards with national public health accreditation requirements, and addressing social and environmental policies and practices that contribute to creating more equitable health outcomes. The PEP team champions health and racial equity in all areas of service and operations across MCHD and with community partners.

The Eligible List established by this recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies in this classification on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis, County wide.

This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointed at the lower level of the career series may be promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority.

Examples of Duties

  • May translate from English into other languages as necessary and if appropriately qualified.
  • May conduct follow-up telephone or site visits to check on laboratory results, verify patient information, set client appointments, etc.
  • Interviews patients or clients to determine health needs and/or special program eligibility; obtains complete and accurate health and/or diet history and brief medical history and records same accurately and legibly.
  • May assist in evaluating nutrition and health assessments as part of a “team” treatment approach.
  • Performs clerical duties such as typing, filing, answering phones, scheduling appointments, posts lab results to patient charts. May issue and track service vouchers.

THE SUCCESFUL CANDIDATE
Will have a proven track record demonstrating the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Working Knowledge of:
  • Basic medical terminology.
  • Alpha/numeric filing procedures.
Some Knowledge of:
  • Basic nutrition needs during infancy, childhood, pregnancy and nursing.
Skill and Ability to:
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to obtain and disseminate information to clients and the public.
  • Type in order to complete forms (familiarity with the keyboard).
  • Write in English in order to record information.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted through the course of work.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Ability to speak, read and write in English and Spanish.

EXAMPLES OF EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Any combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties listed above is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:

Experience: Approximately one year of experience performing duties equivalent to those of a Community Service Aide II in Monterey County.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The required conditions of employment include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record or the employee must be able to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority.
  • Complete and successfully pass the Health Department background investigation process including a Department of Justice fingerprinting check.
  • Be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during times of disaster and/or emergency.
