Position Description
Manages and directs the day to day operations of a research center/institute or medium sized department. Plans, coordinates and supervises the operation and activities of the center/institute/department. Develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities.

Major/Essential Functions
This is a new position housed within the Research Integrity Office, a TTUHSC Division of the Office of Research and Innovation, and report directly to the Assistant Vice President for Research Integrity (AVPRI) for administration of the Office of Researchs Research Oversight Committees.
  • Reduce risk and improve efficiencies through process improvement;
  • Advise university leadership on research policy and provide guidance and direction for application strategies to be in compliance with internal and external regulatory requirements;
  • Serve as a key advisor in matters related to administrative research functions within the university, including the performance of committees and research conducted within or by TTUHSC schools, departments, centers, and institutions;
  • Will be expected to be well-versed in national trends in research policies;
  • Provide support to research administrators in developing, revising, implementing, and maintaining standard operating procedures and policies for all aspects of research administration to ensure effective management, review, and oversight of research;
  • Commitment to greater engagement, better training, more pro-active support, and enabling research compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Engage with other internal (e.g., Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP); Division of Research Innovation, Collaboration, and Entrepreneurship (RICE); Institutional Compliance; etc.) and external (federal, industry, private sponsors, etc.) organizational units to advance the universitys research mission and to foster and facilitate strategies to enhance research collaboration and competitiveness.
  • Develop and monitor institutional metrics to ensure the compliant, effective and efficient delivery of research administration to support research oversight committees and committee Chairs with emphasis on communication, transparency, consistency, and integrity.
  • Provide leadership, oversight, service, and support for the universitys research oversight committees and committee members, including administrators, chairs, and vice chairs.
  • Serve in an ex-officio capacity, as needed, to ad hoc committees established to review special cases across research areas;
  • Develop and foster collaborative relationships with faculty and researchers as well as research oversight committee administrators, including across TTUHSC campuses and other universities within the TTU System
  • Communicate and work with overlapping and intersecting units within and across TTUHSC, including but not limited to Safety Services, Office of General Counsel, and the Clinical Research Institute;
  • Promote and ensure compliance wherever applicable with regulatory requirements in the U.S., and accommodate local laws and regulations, and in general foster an ethical and safe research environment in line with best practices. This includes ensuring any necessary documentation is reported to such agencies as needed; and
  • Write and facilitate key communications and reports for the AVPRI and Senior Vice President for Research and Innovation.


Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required and six years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education beyond Bachelor's may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.
