Job Description

Example Of Duties
  • Performs materiel forecasting for demand planning of rebuildable components; analyzes and monitors the forecasts
  • Identifies and monitors inventory items, quantities, and time-phased requirements to ensure adequate planning and availability of materiel in support Metro Operations, projects, and campaigns
  • Identifies vendors when internal resources are insufficient to accomplish required objectives
  • Identifies materiel requirements for maintenance and overhaul production; and maintains an on-going six-month computerized production plan for supplies and materials
  • Incorporates alternate source information into the inventory planning and acquisition plan for Metro Operations to improve cost, availability, and lead time
  • Prepares and distributes management, statistical, and planning reports
  • Coordinates logistics of materiel acquisition with departmental staff
  • Monitors and updates the fiscal year Material Requirements Plan
  • Uses and develops algorithms to design projections and plan and control materiel requirements
  • Forecasts inventory requirements and delivery schedules
  • Provides guidance and assistance to new or entry-level employees
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Requirements For Employment
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:

Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Public Administration, Economics, or a related field

Experience
  • One year of relevant experience in supply chain management; some positions in this class may require specialized experience in area of assignment; experience using a computerized inventory system preferred

Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements
  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
  • Professional certification from National Contract Management Association (NCMA), American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), Institute for Supply Management (ISM), or equivalent preferred


Knowledge:
  • Theories, principles, and practices of supply chain management and large-scale materiel-production interfacing within a computerized environment
  • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing public procurement and materiel management
  • Inventory control best practices
  • Methods, theories, principles, and practices or Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and other production control systems
  • Business mathematics, algorithms, and equations
  • Personal and mainframe computer operations
  • Applicable computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite

Skills:
  • Analyzing inventory data to enable strategic thinking and optimization
  • Performing statistical and financial analysis
  • Identifying, understanding, and analyzing complex planning concerns
  • Interacting professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
  • Communicating effectively orally and in writing


Abilities:
  • Plan materiel requirements to meet demand
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret complex data
  • Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, budgets, and labor/management agreements
  • Analyze situations, identify problems, and recommend solutions
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and correspondence
  • Travel to offsite locations
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English
