Minimum Qualifications
Education and/or Equivalent Experience:
  • Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus (6) years of experience in maintenance and/or construction, including (3) years of experience in the operation of heavy duty equipment and (2) years of experience in a lead/supervisory capacity.


Licenses or Certifications:
  • Must have a valid Texas Commercial Driver License. To be considered for employment in this position applicants must comply with Department of Transportation Federal Regulations and the City of Austin Drug Policy.

POSITION OVERVIEW :
This position is a member of the Field Operations Branch, Closed Systems Division and will be responsible for:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations for the construction, maintenance, and repair of the City’s storm water drainage systems. Manage the activities of storm drain concrete crews. Manage 3-1-1 emergency response outside of normal business hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.


  • Assisting pipe, cleaning and maintenance, and TV inspection crews.


  • Reviewing proposed design/construction plans and specifications with engineers and providing technical expertise to planned construction, maintenance, and repair activities.


  • Coordinating with the appropriate project personnel and providing feedback regarding operations, materials, equipment, and personnel. Developing work-site plans for significant construction and maintenance activities.


  • Overseeing and managing the inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment to ensure an adequate quantity is available for planned work.


  • Conducting independent inspections of projects for quality control and ensures work standards adhere to regulations, policies, and procedures. Reviewing work priorities, schedules, and assignments. Attending meetings with internal and external customers, including citizens.

DRIVING REQUIREMENT :

Hours
40 hours per week, Monday - Thursday, 5:30am - 4:00pm

Preferred Experience:
  • Extensive experience in management of concrete infrastructure repair and storm drainpipe system repair (such as curb inlets, curb and gutter, flumes, headwalls, safety end treatments, reinforced concrete pipes, sidewalks, retaining walls, and manholes) for a municipality.
  • Experience entering data and information into MAXIMO or any other similar type of work order management system.
  • Experience collaborating and communicating effectively and professionally with others who have varying levels of technical knowledge such as citizens, contractors, subordinate staff and management.
  • Experience with setting-up work zone traffic control plans, making 8-1-1 utility locate requests and obtaining permits to perform work within the City Right-of-Way.
  • CDL A preferred.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.


Assigns and coordinates work crews in performing planned construction and maintenance work on pipelines, storm drain concrete, tunnel inlet facilities, creek side inlets, and detention and water quality ponds to produce a finished product to required standards. Ensures traffic control is set up in construction zones. Ensures drainage right of way, as generated by customer services requests ( CSE ). Monitors daily work sheets, vehicle inspection sheets, and vehicle accidents. Ensures work and safety standards are being maintained and schedules are being met. Investigates and responds to citizen complaints. Ensures vehicles and equipment are maintained as necessary. Writes routine correspondence and communicates as needed with employees, other divisions, and departments.
