Position Information

The Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting for a Park Maintenance Worker I position. The Park Maintenance Worker I reports directly to the Park Maintenance Supervisor, and is responsible for maintaining, repairing, installing and renovating irrigation systems, playgrounds, tables, benches and barbeque units, and performing other maintenance duties as assigned. The ideal candidate will be able to work individually and as a member of a team providing a wide range of services. Leads by example; demonstrates high ethical standards; remains visible and approachable and interacts with others on a regular basis.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training:
  • Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience:
  • Six months of work experience in the maintenance and repair of parks, landscaped areas, street medians and janitorial work.
License or Certificate:
  • Possession of California Driver's License must be maintained as a continued condition of employment.
  • Possession of a Certified Pool & Spa Operator Certification issued by the National Swimming Pool Foundation or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification issued by the National Recreation and Park Association, or equivalent, within the probationary period.

The examination process will consist of:
  • Review of applications for minimum qualifications for the position and to ensure all materials have been submitted.
  • Multiple Choice Exam - Applicants possessing these requirements will be invited to a written exam tentatively scheduled for the week of July 15, 2024.
All applicants that pass the examination process will be placed on the eligible list which is good for at least 6 months and may be extended up to an additional 18 months. This eligible list will be used by the City of Brentwood to fill all current and future openings in this classification as long as the list is active.
