Behavioral Health Unit Supervisors (BHUS). The Bureau currently has vacancies in the Integrated Access to Treatment / Adult System of Care in South County, Access to Treatment Adult Justice Involved Services, and Quality Improvement.
SUMMARY OF POSITION The Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor (BHUS) provides daily clinical oversight to a multidisciplinary team which includes Psychiatric Social Workers, Social Worker IIIs and Behavioral Health Aides. The position entails providing clinical and administrative supervision of the team, monitoring caseloads, productivity, and timely documentation of services. The Unit Supervisor works collaboratively with the Behavioral Health Service Manager and community-based partners promoting a wellness recovery, client-centered and strength-based service model.
ACCESS to Treatment / Adult System of Care (ASOC) King CityThe Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor provides daily clinical oversight to a multidisciplinary team, which includes case managers, behavioral health aides, and licensed and licensed waived staff that work in partnership with our medical assistant, nursing, and psychiatry providers. The position entails providing administrative and clinical supervision of the team, overseeing provision of services, monitoring caseloads, sustainability, and timely documentation of services. The Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor works collaboratively with the Behavioral Health Services Manager and other community-based partners, promoting a wellness recovery, client centered and strength-based service model.
Access to Treatment - Adult Justice Involved Services This Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor will oversee Access for Justice Involved Adults including the provision of services provided by a multidisciplinary team which can include licensed / license eligible clinicians, Social Worker IIIs, Behavioral Health Aides working in partnership with our medical assistants, nursing, and psychiatry providers. The Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor will provide the administrative and clinical supervision to their assigned direct reports. Adult Justice Involved Services include the Collaborative Court programs (Creating New Choices Mental Health Treatment Court Full-Service Partnership, Drug Court, DUI Court, Veterans Treatment Court, Military Diversion), Mental Health Diversion, and Misdemeanor Incompetent to Stand Trial (IST) Diversion, AB109, and Prop 47. This Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor will work closely with the Behavioral Health Services Manager and other Unit Supervisors as well as internal and external stakeholders, and justice partners on a regular basis. This Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor will play and instrumental role in the development and implementation of Community Assistance, Recovery and Empowerment (CARE) Court and ensuring Access to Treatment for Justice Involved Adults exiting carceral settings as part of Behavioral Health Linkages under the Cal AIM for Justice Involved Initiative.
Quality Improvement DepartmentThis Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor for the Quality Improvement Department is located in Salinas and will oversee a team of Senior Psychiatric Social Workers and work within a dynamic, multi- disciplinary team. The Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor is responsible for oversight of utilization reviews for Specialty Mental Health and Drug MediCal services and corrective action plans and the implementation of performance improvement projects that improve client access and engagement in behavioral health services. This unique Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor position works collaboratively with other systems of care within Monterey County Behavioral Health and externally with community partners as subject matter expert in MediCal rules and regulations. In addition to clinical and administrative responsibilities, the Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor will work closely with the Services Manager on special projects and investigations, and influence implementation the of policies and procedures system wide.
Candidates hired into regular full-time positions for this classification at the Health Department may be eligible for a signing bonus up to $10,000. Examples of Duties- Supervises professional and paraprofessional personnel in a specific behavioral health program providing clinical oversight of provision of services; reviews case records and meets with individual staff members on a regular basis to review assigned cases, progress and problem areas and make recommendations on methods of treatment of patient needs.
- May provide direct clinical work in the treatment of patients within the specific program.
- Coordinates the program with related community human services agencies and treatment facilities as assigned; provides consultation services to the community and related agencies as assigned.
- Supervises a specific behavioral health program to rehabilitate or maintain mentally and emotionally disturbed individuals; coordinates provision of services with other program elements; participates in developing procedures manuals and instructional material to assist in developing program goals; assists management in evaluating program needs and developing an effective program.
- Supervises the activities of assigned staff evaluators and confers with staff on a regular basis, recommends disciplinary action.
- Plans and conducts unit meetings.
- Maintains records; prepares reports and correspondence regarding the program.
- May meet with community organizations, private individuals, agency administrators and professional staff of mental health facilities to gain cooperation in achieving program goals as assigned.

Thorough Knowledge of:- Methods and techniques of individual, family, group counseling, case management and social rehabilitation.
- Community resources available for assistance to individuals suffering from mental and/or emotional problems.
- Principles and techniques of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of persons with mental or emotional disorders.
- Laws governing behavioral health services in the state of California for a specific treatment service.

REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: - Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license or the ability to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority.
- Be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during times of disaster and/or emergency, travel out of County to attend meetings.
- Successfully complete a background check to include fingerprinting.
- Pursuant to Section 5751 of the Welfare and Institutions Code, possession of any one of the following:
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker: To be a graduate of an accredited graduate school of social work and be licensed as a clinical social worker in the state of California.
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist: to be a graduate of an approved graduate school of marriage and family therapist and to be licensed as a marriage and family therapist in the state of California.
- Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor: To be a graduate of an approved graduate school of professional clinical counseling and to be licensed as a professional clinical counselor in the State of California
- Clinical Psychologist: To be a graduate from an accredited school of psychology and to be licensed as a psychologist in the state of California.
- Psychiatrist: shall have a license as a physician and surgeon in the state of California and show evidence of having completed three years graduate training in psychiatry in a program approved by the American Medical Association or the American Osteopathic Association.
