Pay Range: $112,880 - $149,566 annual compensation

Workdays & Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm; Some evening/weekend work required.

The Environmental Services Department is seeking to hire a qualified applicant for the position of Assistant Environmental Services Director for Environmental Health Services.

The Assistant Environmental Services Director for Environmental Health Services is one of two Assistant Director positions reporting to the Director of Environmental Services. The ideal candidate will have experience managing/leading both administrative and operational staff and will have demonstrated experience with public health and/or environmental services.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Six (6) years of management experience relating to environmental policy, regulations, health, planning, zoning or related field, including two (2) years of administrative and supervisory.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience managing both administrative and operations.
  • Experience with Public Health and/or Environmental services, which includes but is not limited to, the prevention and control efforts of foodborne, waterborne and other communicable diseases.
  • Vector Control.
  • Experience working and coordinating with other governmental entitles for public safety.
  • Environmental Services including storm water and air quality programs, site remediation and brownfields, and litter and illegal dumping control, and environmental justice.
  • Extensive Customer Service skills.
  • Candidates with a blend of progressive direct work experience in the public or private sectors would be most attractive in addition to individuals with environmental certifications and/or public health certifications; e.g. Registered Sanitarian, CHMM, MPH, REM, etc.

The Assistant Environmental Services Director job responsibilities include:
  • Consumer Health: Public Health includes, but is not limited to, the prevention and control efforts of foodborne, waterborne and other communicable diseases, prevention and containment efforts of existing and emerging mosquito borne diseases such as West Nile virus.
  • Coordinate the city's existing collaborative efforts with Tarrant County Public Health, the Department of State Health Services, and other public/private collective health efforts on broader public health issues and policy.
  • Environmental Services: Regional air quality monitoring and compliance inspections at local facilities; the monitoring of surface water quality, as well as the administration of inspections of industrial facilities and construction sites for storm water permit compliance.
  • Direct management of assigned divisions: provision of leadership and oversight for administrative and programmatic activities and special projects.

Physical Demands

Sedentary Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
