The Position

Highway Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify medium (GVWR 10,500-26,000 lbs.) and heavy (GVWR greater than 26,000 lbs.) highway maintenance and construction equipment.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.

Repair & maintain gas/diesel engines, electrical equip., cooling & hydraulic systems, transmissions, drivelines, differentials, & brakes. Perform emergency repairs out on the road. Fill out repair orders. Compile & maintain records & sheets. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience in the maintenance and repair of medium and heavy duty vehicles and equipment; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-in-Training program in Nevada State service followed by one year of journey level experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Notes A valid Class A or B Nevada commercial driver's license is required within six months of the date of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Special Requirements Incumbent is required to furnish their own mechanic's tools. Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. Additional Position Criteria This position requires a valid driver's license at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation.
