Job Description

Position Scope

Performs highly technical work coordinating and producing quality promotional and documentary-style videos in multiple formats for various marketing channels including the city’s website, social media, email and newsletters.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conceptualizes and creates compelling, original brand content by developing, writing, shooting and editing video programs for internal and external use, including the city’s website, social media, email and newsletters.
  • Producing long and short form content for various market platforms.
  • Storyboarding, planning, script writing, filming and proofing videos.
  • Produces content for special projects, presentations and promotions to assist other departments and divisions with their strategic plans.
  • Programs and monitors an automated video system for program playback on the city’s cable channel ensuring the delivery of timely and quality service to the resident.
  • Assists with various marketing and outreach programs online and on multiple social media channels and develop and execute marketing strategies.
  • Work under tight deadlines in a highly organized manner.
  • Supports other staff members and is a team player by helping out other personnel with their video production needs.
  • Listens and communicates effectively with all those encountered in the course of work.
  • Operates and maintains all audio and video equipment, including video cameras, microphones, lighting equipment, green screens, editing/post-production software, etc. Research audio and video equipment needs and acquires new equipment as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required


Minimum Qualifications & Position Requirements

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications, Broadcasting or Video Communication from an accredited educational institution and five (5) years’ experience; OR an equivalent combination of education or experience.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of:
  • Creating quality video programs from original concept to completion.
  • Technical knowledge of television and film production equipment.
  • Adobe Creative Suite software.
  • Storytelling and journalism.
  • Social media and marketing.
  • Microsoft Office products and other relevant technologies.

12 Month Goals:
  • Organize and conduct a videography workshop to teach city government employees how to effectively use their city-provided smartphones to capture picture and video content for social media purposes.
  • Produce and publish more than 40 high-quality videos in the first year that highlight various aspects of the city, including community events, public services and ceremonies to enhance the city's image.
  • Create and maintain a content calendar with at least 2 planned video projects per month, ensuring each project aligns with departmental objectives and city events. Measure the success by tracking the number of videos produced and the engagement metrics of each video.
