The Position

This recruitment is being conducted to fill one (1) full-time position for the classification of Senior Custodian. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future full-time, part-time, limited-term and extra help vacancies as they occur over the next 12 months.

About the Position of Senior Custodian at Napa County:
  • Hourly Rate Range: $26.38 (Step 1) - $31.20 (Step 5)

Custodians provide care and cleaning for assigned areas in and around Napa County buildings, offices, and other facilities. The Senior Custodian provides lead supervision to custodial staff and maintains a safe, efficient operation of custodial activities.

This is the advanced journey level class in the Custodian series. The Senior Custodian is expected to perform a full range of custodial duties with a significant degree of independent judgment and responsibility in keeping assigned areas clean and orderly. The Senior Custodian trains, plans, assigns, and inspects the work of an assigned crew of Custodians and may act for the Supervising Custodian in the supervisor's absence.

This class is distinguished from the next higher-level class of Supervising Custodian in that the latter class has full supervisory responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will bring custodial experience in commercial/institutional environments and demonstrate a commitment to teamwork, including the ability to lead teams effectively. Candidates must have the ability to work independently and demonstrate the highest work ethic.

Position Requirements:
Persons employed in this class must be willing to work days, evenings, and nights.

To qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities. A desirable combination is:
  • Experience: Three years of responsible experience performing general custodial or cleaning work.
  • Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for four years of the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
  • License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License.
*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.

SALARY -
Salaries are based on a five-step range. Appointments are usually made at the beginning step with advances occurring at six months and the completion of each year thereafter. Salary rates are reviewed annually.
