The Palo Alto City Library is looking for a skilled, experienced, and passionate professional to serve as Library Programs Coordinator for Staff Training & Customer Experience.

Our Library Program Coordinator for Staff Training & Customer Experience will play a key role in:
  • helping to oversee staff training and professional development initiatives,
  • initiatives to maximize the quality of customer experience and use of our libraries.
This position will work closely with the Palo Alto City Library management team and professional staff to develop and coordinate systemwide initiatives and projects to further the Library’s efforts in staff training, professional development, and customer service.

While this position may actually conduct some trainings, it will be primarily responsible for coordinating training by putting together logistics and scheduling, including enlisting other staff members to serve as trainers. Developing training communications and post-training follow-ups are also duties of the role.

The Coordinator will develop measurements of the customer experience and lead teams to re-design and communicate procedures in pursuit of continuous improvement of member services. The library professional in this role will actively seek out best practices in the profession and monitor new developments in the field to keep Palo Alto Libraries cutting edge in the ever-evolving media landscape.

Reports to: Library Division Head

Supervises: Non-supervisory; may monitor, coordinate, train and assign work to
professional, paraprofessional, clerical, hourly and/or volunteer staff.

Purpose of Responsible for coordination of one or more major library programs:
Classification: Staff Training & Development, and Customer Experience

Distinguishing The Coordinator, Library Programs is a classification found in the Library
Characteristics: Department. It differs from the Senior Librarian in that it has primary and
sole responsibility for one or more major library programs; it differs from
the Supervising Librarian in that the latter includes direct supervision of
staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

Sufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities, which would typically be acquired through:

  • B.A. or B.S. Degree from an accredited college or university.
and

  • Three years of professional experience as a librarian. A Master's Degree in Library or Information Science may be substituted for one year's experience.
