Job Description

Police Chief

City of Anderson, CA

Located along the winding Sacramento River with stunning vistas of Mt. Shasta and Lassen Peak in the distance, the city of Anderson is a growing community of 11,323 in Northern California's Shasta County. Located just a few miles south of Redding and 138 miles north of Sacramento, the city's roots are as a lumber mill town near the northern tip of the Central Valley of California.

Anderson and the Shasta Cascade region offer the perfect escape from the fast pace of city life. Anderson is centrally located in a wonderland of outdoor activities. Recreation enthusiasts enjoy world-class fishing in the Sacramento River and its tributaries, hiking at Mt. Shasta and Lassen Peak, boating on Lake Shasta and Whiskeytown Lake, and many other opportunities. Anderson boasts 450 acres of parkland, including Anderson River Park, which has a boat launch on the Sacramento River, a world-class community amphitheater, the new River Splash splash pad, developed sports areas, and plenty of hiking/biking trails. The Mosquito Serenade, a free summer community concert series, is held yearly in the amphitheater. The Anderson Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency composed of 23 peace officers, and 10 professional staff.  The Department has two divisions, Field Services and Support Services.

The City of Anderson is seeking an experienced leader to guide its Police Department.  The new Chief will lead a department that is well thought of and enjoys strong community support.  The Chief must have an extensive and well-rounded law enforcement background.

A bachelor’s degree in criminology, police sciences, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required.  Five years of relevant progressively responsible supervisory/management law enforcement experience is required, including at least two years in a middle management capacity at the rank of lieutenant or above, preferably in a municipal police department. The current salary is up to $244,275 annually, DOQE.  City also offers an attractive benefits package.
