Position Summary:
Supervises the general accounting, grants, purchasing, and accounts payable areas within the Finance department. Duties include supervising staff, overseeing the integrity of financial data and ensuring the department meets laws, regulations and guidelines governing financial reporting in a health care facility.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience:
Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or a closely related field and three (3) years of professional level experience with payroll, accounts payable or financial operations.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:
None.

Additional and/or Preferred Position Requirements

Applicant must have the following:
  • At least three (3) years of accounting/finance experience with at least one (1) year specifically in a hospital setting
  • Experience coordinating the preparation of and completing the review of annual audit documentation
  • Experience in performing account reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Experience leading month end close
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Experience supervising, directing, training and/or coordinating the work of a team of financial and/or accounting staff


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of:
Supervisory theories and principles; hospital and departmental policies and principles; laws, rules, regulations and standards governing finances and financial reporting in health care facilities; generally accepted accounting principles (G.A.A.P.); finance related theories and principles such as fund accounting, budgeting and strategic planning; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.

Skill in:
Compiling, reviewing and analyzing financial data; resolving complex financial problems; writing financial and technical reports; using computers and related software applications; using office equipment such as copiers, phones, facsimiles and adding machines; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and VDT screens, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
