Job Description

Job Summary

The City of Greenville seeks a skilled and experienced individual to fulfill the role of Recreation Supervisor for our youth athletic programs. This position offers the opportunity to play a pivotal role in developing, coordinating, and implementing various youth athletic programs while also contributing to the supervision of H. Boyd Lee Park. In addition, you will have the chance to represent the city on various community boards and committees. Join us in making a meaningful impact within the City of Greenville.

Examples of Duties

  • Plans, organizes, implements, and provides on-site supervision for youth athletic leagues, programs, and summer camps at various sites;
  • Arranges program publicity and promote public interest in support of recreation activities;
  • Prepares league and practice schedules;
  • Develops and distributes program satisfaction surveys to learn program efficiencies and deficiencies;
  • Serves on various community boards and committees;
  • Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises numerous part-time program staff, two full-time recreation assistants, and over 300 volunteers.
  • Provides coaching material and program information through pre-season coaches meetings;
  • Coordinates with local high school and college coaches to conduct coach's clinics to enhance the coach's education program;
  • Prepares and monitors youth athletics budget by tracking expenses daily of all purchases and program costs;
  • Assists in the operations of H. Boyd Lee Park by supervising the facility;
  • Communicates with the general public daily about facility amenities, program information, and reservation information;
  • Ensures all facilities are prepared and up to department standards by visual inspection and submitting job requests as needed;
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in recreation administration or closely related field; and
  • Three years of related experience in a recreational setting.
  • Certified Parks and Recreational Professional (CPRP) (Preferred but not required.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • principles, practices, and policies of a variety of municipal recreation programs and activities.
  • theory and philosophy of recreation and its application to individual and group behavior.
  • First Aid and specific youth athletic rules and trends.
Skill in:
  • giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

  • considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • supervising the work of personnel and volunteers.
  • coordinating a wide variety of recreation interests and activities into programs for customers of all ages.

  • operating assigned equipment, including computer equipment and various software packages.
Ability to :
  • work cooperatively with City officials, other employees, and the general public.
  • work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.


Special Requirements

  • FLSA Status: Non-exempt
  • Valid North Carolina Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
  • Must possess (or obtain within 90 days of hire) and maintain valid First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications.
  • Requires working a varied schedule to include nights and weekends.
