Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Center on Disabilities’ Managing Director, the Assistant Director (AD) sets the accessibility standards for the department and ensures compliance of those standards. The AD reviews, analyzes and maintains all third-party vendor contracts with the various systems that support the department and the CSUN AT Conference, including but not limited to managing payment transactions, Call for Papers/Presentations submissions and reviews, Exhibitor booking and management, registrations, scheduling and any future projects.

In addition, the AD manages and oversees the department's Technologies Manager, ensuring implementation of technology goals and plans. The AD must have management level experience overseeing accessibility and thorough knowledge of the general disability field.

Further, the AD provides leadership in the content focus and direction for the CSUN Assistive Technology Conference and any future programs offered by the Center on Disabilities. The AD will be required to build coalitions and develop networks in entrepreneurial and academic environments to increase engagement within the field to keep the CSUN AT Conference as an industry leader.

The AD will discover new talent and attract seasoned industry leaders as presenters and content contributors for the CSUN AT Conference and any new projects or programs. The AD will be responsible to determine content trends and recruit presenters for workshops, featured presentations and fireside chats, and oversee the submission and selection process for the approximate 400 educational sessions for the annual CSUN AT Conference.
  • Responsible for the overall accessibility standards for the Center on Disabilities and the CSUN AT Conference and other related activities. Responsible for the review, selection, and contracting of 3rd party vendors/systems/providers to be compliant with WCAG, 504, 508 and all global accessibility standards.
  • Hires, supervises and evaluates the Center on Disabilities’ Technologies Manager, directing and establishing short-term and long-term technology goals and provides oversight of the implementation of Department and related project technology plans annually
  • Provides leadership in identifying areas of focus and attracting industry leaders and topics to target in the Accessibility, Assistive Technology and general disability field to determine content direction and identify key leaders/stakeholders that are aligned with the Division of Student Affairs and CSUN values of equity, justice and inclusion. Engages with professional and industry leaders and organizations.
  • Serve as final reviewer of the over 700 submissions, once all three (3) Reviewer Committees complete their scoring of all the received submissions from the four different Calls for Papers and Presentations and makes final recommendations on the selection of approximately 400 submissions for presentation at the CSUN AT Conference. Oversees the Call for Proposals for Pre-Conference Workshops, reviews and determines the acceptance of the array of 4-hour or 8-hour workshops. Serves as the Center on Disabilities representative for all presenters for Pre-Conference Workshops and Featured Presentations; coordinating registrations, presenter needs, travel and all logistics associated with these major educational events related to the CSUN AT Conference
  • Engages with academic departments, community agencies and external stakeholders to build a community presence and network to increase opportunities for expansion.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have through knowledge of global accessibility standards and experience in accessibility testing, evaluation and remediation.
  • Management level experience overseeing accessibility and thorough knowledge of the general disability field.


Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).

The anticipated hiring range: $93,000 - $100,000/year

Full Pay range: $93,000 - $100,000/year

Time Base: Full-Time
