The Job

The Department of Fleet Management is recruiting for a Fleet Compliance Technician* who will perform a variety of technical duties in support of an environmental regulatory program. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Perform site inspections for all Fleet Management operated sites, including Service Centers, Fuel Tank Sites, Generator Sites, etc. to monitor for compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental regulation agencies; report non-compliance issues identified in the field as appropriate.
  • Conduct assessments on aboveground and underground fuel storage tanks to ensure the appropriate inspections, testing, and repairs have been completed for each unit.
  • Ensure all permittable equipment within Fleet Management and other County departments maintain active permits; process initial and renewal permitting paperwork.
  • Maintain required records for appropriate environmental agencies; keep abreast of any new, updated regulatory changes related to records keeping; conduct annual record reviews as required per regulatory agency; and analyze data proactively in fleet management system to ensure compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Physical Requirements: May require lifting items weighing up to twenty (20) pounds, in addition to bending, kneeling, and stooping.

Travel/License: Employees will be required to make provision for transportation and may be required to use personal vehicle (mileage reimbursement is available at current IRS rate). At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation.

Pre-Employment Process: Incumbent selected for this position must pass the pre-employment process which may include verification of employment history and education as well as a physical exam and drug screening.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet ONE (1) of the Requirement Options.

OPTION 1: One (1) year of full-time experience in an environmental health or related setting, which included explaining rules/regulations, conducting site visits, and enforcing environmental health, fuel, and fuel storage compliance.
OPTION 2: Thirty (30) semester or forty-five (45) quarter completed units from an accredited college or university in environmental compliance or closely related field.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have eighteen (18) months experience working in an environmental health setting, an associates degree in environmental health or related field and have knowledge of fleet equipment.
