Job Description

This position performs general labor work to assist on the tipping floor during busy times directing customers, transfer materials, scale receipting and payment processing over the weekends and as needed may fill-in for Loader Operator.

This position is a limited term position working approximately 16 hours per week (Saturdays and Sundays 8a-4:00p) during the summer months of May - September. Some flexibility with schedule start and end times.

Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills

Keeps the tipping floor area organized and directs customers on where to park/unload. Safely operates assigned equipment, machinery, and tools. Loads, unloads and hauls materials to and from various locations within facility. Logs incoming waste to calculate accurate fees and process transactions involving credit card and cash handling.
Perform general clerical duties to include answering phone, assisting customers, processing payments, and handling cash/credit card payments.Maintain effective weight scale operations to record weight of loads going in and out for appropriate waste and recycling invoicing. Fill-in as Loader Operator as needed and separate all large non-burnable, recyclable metal, appliances etc., and any DNR banned material from waste stream.
Maintain efficient filing system for data and records. Ensures all activities are carried out in a safe manner; adheres to all County safety regulations; assists co-workers in the safe handling of equipment; ensures equipment is safely operated and driving laws are obeyed; ensures all regulations pertaining to the safe use of equipment are understood and followed. Reports all accidents to the appropriate authority. Follows all policies for reporting, investigating, and follow-up of equipment incidents, or personal injuries. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications & Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior Customer Service experience preferred


Supplemental information

  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of assigned equipment and machinery including lifting capacities and proper loading to meet safe and efficient weight distributions.
  • Ability to operate assigned machinery and equipment skillfully and safely in close proximity to vehicular/truck traffic, slopes, debris, laborers/etc.
  • Ability to safely load, unload and transport items to and from incinerator.
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of assigned equipment and machinery.
  • Knowledge of industry safety rules and ability to utilize Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with the public.
  • Ability to take control of situations in a responsible manner.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to comprehend, retain and apply County, State, and Federal policies and legislation, i.e. local ordinances, procedure manuals, SDS sheets, safety manuals and warning labels.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete records and understand and carry out instructions received in writing or verbally.
  • Ability to maintain regular, reliable, prompt and predictable on-site job attendance.
  • Ability to work allocated hours which may include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to lawfully operate designated equipment/vehicles at all times duties are performed.
  • Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications consistent for this position.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations required of this position.
