Park Maintenance Technician I

Pay Range: $21.75 to $24.13

The City of Olathe's Field Operations Division is currently seeking a Park Maintenance Technician to join our Parks Infrastructure Team. This team services, maintains, and repairs all structures within the City of Olathe's parks. If you're interested in a job that directly impacts the lives of Olathe citizens, this is for you. In this role, you will work with a team and independently as you maintain and repair a variety of facilities, equipment, and systems within the City's parks and trails. We’re looking for someone who has a strong mechanical aptitude and can shift gears at a moment’s notice as priorities change. Our Parks Infrastructure Crew has a great team atmosphere. They have quality tools and equipment along with a boot and clothing allowance. Because this role requires a CDL within six months of hire, you’ll participate in our CDL training program. It’s up to you to pass, but we’ll set you up for success by helping you throughout the process.

Work Schedule:
  • 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Will participate in on-call rotation, being on-call one week every month
  • Some overtime required to participate in seasonal special events and assist in plowing snow

Participate in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for the maintenance and/or construction of park equipment and structures; to assist with repairs; and to maintain equipment used to perform a variety of park maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Construct, inspect, and repair park facilities, equipment and buildings by performing a variety of skilled carpentry, painting, sheet rocking, concrete/masonry, welding, plumbing and electrical repair work.
  • Operate, maintain and repair a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, power sanders, drills, paint sprayers, welders, plumbing snakes, routers, grinders, electric generators, gas, diesel and natural gas.
  • Utilize computerized work order and asset management software to document repairs, preventative maintenance and assets.
  • Assist with training assigned employees in maintenance methods, techniques, and in the set up and use of equipment.
  • Install and repair a variety of electrical devices; plumbing, drinking fountains, street scape water fountains.
  • Ensure the adherence to safe work practices and procedures.
  • Perform on-call duties and overtime including special events and snow removal.


Qualifications:

Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience in general construction and/or maintenance.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Licenses and Certificates: Must have a current valid driver's license with favorable driving record. Must obtain a Class A commercial driver's license with air brake endorsement along with DOT medical certificate within six months of employment. May require specialty certification in assigned area.

Environmental or Physical Demands: Will work outside in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. Will be exposed to wind, sun, rain, pollen, allergens, and other elements. This work requires one to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, crawl, twist, and reach frequently throughout the day. Will lift and carry weight up to 80 pounds independently and up to 160 pounds with someone else. Will operate a variety of hand and power tools used in maintenance and construction activities. Will drive or ride from site-to-site multiple times throughout the day.
