Position Overview

The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Fire Equipment Technician II in the Fire Department. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of functions and tasks; oversees central warehouse operations involving the ordering, receipt, distribution, selection, use, associated training, storage, maintenance, and documentation/inventory of supplies and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to support the day-to-day activities and emergency operations of the City of Henderson Fire Department; performs related duties as assigned.

Salary placement for non-represented positions is based on a comprehensive compensation review and takes into consideration the candidate's qualifications as well as internal equity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of experience in purchasing, storekeeping, equipment maintenance and/or inventory control with at least two (2) years of which included repair and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered
  • Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
  • Must possess a Forklift Operator Certificate issued by a recognized agency within thirty (30) days from time of hire
  • Must be certified by the PPE manufacturer or approved Independent Service Provider within six (6) months of hire as a condition of continued employment
  • Desirable: Two (2) years of experience, trained and/or verified by a manufacturer, in Advanced Cleaning and Inspection of Personal Protective Clothing (PPE)
  • Desirable: Two (2) years of experience sewing and/or repairing PPE
  • Desirable: Previous experience with purchasing, warehousing and maintaining fire and EMS supplies and equipment
  • Desirable: Class F, Class B, or Class A endorsement on Nevada driver license
  • Desirable: PPE 101 Certificate
  • Desirable: MSA G1 CARE certified
  • Desirable: Forklift Operator experience
  • Desirable: Experience repairing small motors (chain saws, gas blowers, hydraulic extrication tools)

The assessment and selection process for this position will take place on the dates listed above. All candidates who wish to be considered for this position will need to be in Henderson, Nevada, and make themselves available to participate in the testing process at any time on any of the dates listed above.

Selection Process

The selection process will entail Subject Matter Experts reading and scoring your responses to supplemental questions 13-17 and your answers will be the sole determining factor for placement on the eligibility list for this classification.

Subject Matter Experts will NOT have access to any information besides the answers to questions 13-17. This means that they will not have access to applications, resumes or any other identifying information when scoring. Candidates who have been placed on the eligibility list will be invited to participate in a selection interview.


The selection process will begin with an employment application package screening, with the best-qualified candidates being invited to participate further in the assessment process. This process may include any combination of written, performance, and oral assessments to evaluate job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
