Salary Range: $54,525 - $72,682 (Commensurate with Experience)

General Description and Classification Standards:
The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator is responsible for performing a variety of tasks for the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Emergency Preparedness. Duties include but are not limited to: Providing support for the development, implementation, and monitoring of strategic emergency preparedness plans and program documents such as response plans, policies, and procedures for critical incident, emergency, or disaster preparedness. May act as project team lead for development of planning and training products, and function as a group facilitator for internal and external stakeholder meetings and exercises.

Supervision Received and Exercised:
The Emergency Preparedness Coordinator receives general supervision from the Emergency Preparedness Manager. Project and technical direction may be provided to professional, technical, office support and other City staff.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned. Duties include the performance of skilled technical and administrative work, coordinating critical incident, emergency, or disaster preparedness planning. Creating and maintaining plans, such as the emergency operations plan, incident-specific plans, site specific emergency action plans, business continuity plans, hazard mitigation plan, and departmental plans. Researches, reviews, writes, and maintains emergency plans and standard operating procedures for Citywide operations during critical incident, emergency, or disaster events. Assists with coordinating daily operations of the department. Participates in local, state, and regional disaster preparedness exercises to enhance capabilities within the department operations. Facilitate presentations on emergency preparedness for the department workforce and other city agencies. Assists with training the City’s workforce to be better prepared for emergency or disaster events. Assists with analyzing weather forecasts to notify the City’s workforce of weather hazards affecting business operations. Operates all systems and equipment assigned to the division as needed for emergency management operations. This position is considered essential and is subject to provide 24/7 on-call support for the City of Atlanta and the Mayor’s Office of Emergency Preparedness in the event of a critical incident.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of emergency response systems and capabilities; methods and procedures of operating emergency and disaster plans; federal and state regulations and guidelines governing emergency and disaster planning; and operating standard computer equipment, hardware, and software. Ability to: plan and coordinate the work of others; operate all communications equipment; maintain required certifications; respond to work during emergency situations or inclement weather; speak distinctly; deal courteously with the public under stressful conditions; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with service providers, associates, and the general public.

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree or four-year equivalent degree (Equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).

Preferred Education & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Emergency/Disaster Management, Homeland Security, Public Safety, Public Health, or a related area preferred; and
• One to three years of experience in emergency management or related field; or
• Equivalent combination of education and experience
