Compensation and Benefits

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,610 - $4,750 per month

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,610 - $6,556 per month
  • This is a full-time, probationary, exempt position.
  • Positions at Fresno State are to perform their work onsite. Some positions, depending upon University needs and operations, may be eligible for remote work, one day per week, pursuant to Fresno State's remote work guidelines and the CSU policy.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

The Doctoral Program Advisor (SSP II) performs student services work characterized by program support and student advising in individual and group settings. The position requires the application of a high degree of judgment and professional competencies gained through graduate studies and advanced professional training in higher education or student affairs leadership. Under the general supervision of the Director of the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development, the incumbent will work to recognize program needs and develop approaches to implement comprehensive program and student-level analyses and assessments including, but not limited to admissions trends, advising, enrollment, graduation, employment, and recruitment of prospective students. Additionally, this position provides comprehensive in-person and online recruitment and advising services to prospective and matriculated students in the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership. This position designs and implements events and activities for matriculated doctoral students, communicates programmatic policies and curriculum requirements, and provides timely coursework advising for completion of all doctoral degree requirements. The Doctoral Program Advisor manages the doctoral program’s website and social media accounts, creates photo and video content for strategic communications, and maintains alumni, applicant, and student databases to help meet the graduate enrollment goals of the university.

The purpose of these services and activities is to assist doctoral students in making successful progress toward degree completion. Such services and activities may include providing information and guidance to students; coordinating and administering programs, events, and projects; advocating the needs of students to university administrators, faculty and staff; and providing support and assistance to students facing a variety of problems, questions, and challenges.

Key Qualifications
  • Work with students who may disclose sensitive and personal information in an understanding and supportive manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and apply federal and state FERPA and Information Privacy Act regulations.
  • Interpret and apply program rules and regulations.
  • Initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
  • Obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews.
  • Reason logically and carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments successfully.

Education and Experience
  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
    • Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
    • A master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience
