Job Summary

The Grand Prairie Public Library System is seeking a dynamic, creative, and versatile candidate to join us as an Outreach Undergraduate Intern. We are looking for someone with a passion for education and community engagement who is eager to contribute their skills and enthusiasm to our team. The ideal candidate will possess experience and proficiency in marketing, graphic design, and social media, in addition to the qualities mentioned below.

As an Outreach Intern, you will have the opportunity to engage with the community by representing the library at various events throughout the city. Your role will involve promoting the library's diverse range of programs and resources, as well as providing support to our Programming Team in event preparation, setup, and breakdown.

Essential Job Functions

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend and actively participate in community events to promote library programs and services.
  • Collaborate with the Programming Team to ensure successful execution of library events.
  • Cultivate a deep understanding of all library programs, services, and resources.
  • Utilize marketing, graphic design, and social media skills to enhance outreach efforts and increase community engagement.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of events, both indoors and outdoors, across the city and at our three branches.
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate evening and Saturday events, while balancing academic commitments.
  • Take initiative and demonstrate a proactive approach to fulfilling job responsibilities.


Minimum Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for education, community engagement, and working with people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in marketing strategies, graphic design software (Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), and social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Availability to work approximately 19 hours per week, including evenings and Saturdays.
  • Access to reliable transportation; mileage is reimbursed when the library vehicle is unavailable.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.

For city employees who are regular part time (10-19 hours per week) or seasonal hired placed on City payroll, the following benefits are provided:
  • PARS - Public Agency Retirement System: the employee contributes 6.2% each paycheck to this retirement system and the city provides 1.3%. The employee does not pay into Social Security. All of the employees contributions may be withdrawn upon separating service from the city. The City's contributions will not be paid unless the employee retires under the system.
  • Part time or seasonal employees are not eligible for any paid leave or other benefits.
  • Part time or seasonal employees are limited to working only 1,000 hours per 12-month period, unless the seasonal is project based for a specific period of time which is typically less than 12-months.
