The Job

The Department of Public Health is recruiting for Nurse Educator to develop and implement continuing education/training and orientation programs, conduct staff development, program specific competency evaluation and mandatory in-service programs for DPH employees, providers, nursing, and clinical support staff. Nurse Educators develop, implement, and evaluate training for staff in the use of new products, equipment, and procedures; assess educational needs, and plan and implement programs to meet educational needs; prepare instructional materials; support disaster service worker training and develop and revise policies and procedures.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Certifications: Nurse Educators may be required to obtain additional certifications depending on the needs of the department.

BLS Certification: Must possess a Healthcare Provider level Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association upon hire and maintain the certification throughout employment.

Work Conditions: Working conditions may involve exposure to infectious materials.

Work Schedule: Candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule as education and training will be provided to clinical staff at various programs and work locations within the Department .

Pre-employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass a background check and a job-related physical exam, including a drug test, prior to employment.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must possess all of the following:

License:
Must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Nurse with the State of California Board of Registered Nursing.

Certification: Must possess and maintain a Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Education: Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.

Experience: Three (3) years (within the past five years) of full-time experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care hospital, ambulatory care or home health setting.

Substitution: A Master's Degree in Nursing may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess experience as a Nurse Educator in an acute care setting, and possesses a Public Health Nurse Certificate.
