Scottsdale Airport is located 9 miles north of downtown Scottsdale. The city of Scottsdale has owned and operated the airfield since 1966. With a pproximately 171,000 takeoffs and landings in 2023, Scottsdale is one of the premier general aviation airports with a single-runway airport in the country, and one of the busiest corporate jet facilities in the state. About the Position
This position performs skilled work in the maintenance of an airport facility. In addition, this position inspects airport facility conditions to ensure safe, efficient airport operations and that maintenance, emergency and security functions are compatible with local, state and federal regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • A High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
  • Three years of general facility and grounds maintenance experience, preferably related to an airport facility.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date.
  • Individuals in this classification must obtain an Arizona Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B (or higher) within six months of hire or promotion. This includes passing the Arizona Department of Transportation physical exam, completing and passing the skills demonstration portion of the commercial driver license test and securing the actual license within the six-month period. As a condition of continued employment, individuals of this classification are required to maintain a valid Arizona Commercial Driver License and will be subject to unannounced alcohol and drug testing as required by law.
  • Must obtain a State of Arizona Herbicide Applicator's License within six (6) months of date of hire or promotion. As a condition of continued employment, individuals of this classification are required to maintain a valid Arizona Herbicide Applicator's License at all times while employed in this position.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

Essential Functions

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
  • Coordinates the overall airport airside and landside maintenance programs at the airport. This includes developing and employing preventative maintenance programs, identifying work tasks that need to be accomplished and performing maintenance tasks.
  • Plans, develops, leads, coordinates, monitors and performs daily maintenance tasks in support of the Scottsdale Airport's comprehensive maintenance program.
  • Provides lead expertise to Operations personnel regarding the airport maintenance program.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates maintenance activities to be completed with the assistance of Operations personnel.
  • Plans and schedules all airport repair work in accordance with a work order system and as directed by the Airport Operations Supervisor.
  • Performs semi-skilled maintenance tasks associated with airport owned buildings and other infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to: electrical, plumbing, mechanical, landscaping, custodial, structural, fencing, gates, painting, pavement, airfield lighting/electrical systems, irrigation, etc.
  • Ensures that all supplies necessary to keep the airfield in good working order are on hand at all times.

  • Work performed in various maintenance settings and field situations.
  • Seldom sedentary and includes walking or moving. Work sometimes involves climbing ladders and working at heights greater than 10 feet, bending and stooping repeatedly, lifting arms above head, and moderate muscular exertion and lifting.
  • Regular exposure to dust, pollen, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes and unpleasant odors.
  • Operate and use carpentry, masonry, construction, maintenance tools, a variety of medium to heavy equipment, including concrete mixer, concrete saw, concrete grinder, chop saws, skip loaders, and other types of concrete finishing tools.
  • Move and carry materials weighing over 50 pounds, may need to move and carry materials up to 66 pounds with assistance.
  • Work alternate schedule that will include holidays, weekends, evenings, overnights and mandatory overtime on regular scheduled assigned times throughout the year.
