Description

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently recruiting for two full-time Animal Care Services Officer. Under close supervision, incumbents enforces State and County laws regarding stray, dangerous, rabid, nuisance and unwanted domestic animals; investigates complaints; patrols assigned areas; captures animals; removes dead animals from public and private properties; assist in feeding and cleaning animal enclosures; assist with euthanizations and disposal of animals in a humane and prescribed method and performs other duties related to humane animal protection and control; performs related work as assigned including assisting the public with drop off, pick up and adoption of animals as necessary. This is a working level class in animal control, responsible for enforcing applicable regulations in a limited public officer capacity. Successful performance of the work requires skill in dealing with the public in difficult situations as well as a willingness to handle animals that may be injured or ill.

Animal Care Services is a division of the Sheriff's Department. Animal Care Services provides services for the unincorporated areas of Yuba County and is located in Olivehurst, California. Animal Care Services care for lost animals, injured and abandon animals, and a provide variety of services that protect both citizens and animals. Most importantly, they keep lost pets safe and happy so they can be reunited with their owner or adopted into a new family.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should be skilled in dealing with the public in difficult situations as well as a willingness to handle and control animals which may be aggressive, injured or ill. This classification may work extended off-hours shifts or be called back in emergency situations. The incumbent must have a teamwork mentality but possess the ability to work independently when assigned.

Required Qualifications & Requirements:

Minimum : Equivalent to graduation from high school, one (1) year of experience in animal care or similar work which will have provided the required knowledge and skills.

Preferred : In addition to the above minimum, up to three (3) years of experience in animal care or similar work which will have provided the required knowledge and skills.

Working Conditions : Work extended or off-hours shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Willingness to control and handle aggressive, ill, injured or dead animals in potentially hazardous situations. Wear Uniform as specified.

Special Instructions: Must successfully complete an extensive and through background investigation including a Miscellaneous Personal History Statement and Live Scan finger printing and a psychological examination prior to hire. Must have the ability to obtain a California driver's license within 10 days of hire and maintain the license throughout employment. Possession of or the ability to obtain within one year of hire date, a California PC 832 Peace Officer Certification.

Benefits

SALARY RANGE: $4,023 - $4,426 / Mon. (DOE)

EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY LIST

An employment eligibility list is established for those applicants who successfully pass all phases of the examination process.
