Education and Experience : Bachelor's Degree or higher in Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field and four (4) years of public safety technologies systems experience or an Associate's Degree in Computer Information Systems, Microcomputer Technology or a related field, and eight (8) years of public safety technologies systems experience.

Licenses and Certificates : Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment.

General Purpose

Under general direction, plan, develop, maintain and control the public safety technologies systems.

Typical Duties

Manage, plan, develop, integrate and evaluate the customization, installation and maintenance of the public safety specialized systems. Involves: Assure and control the wireless communication equipment quality, stability and optimization based on data reported from the Network Operations Center (NOC). Collect and analyze data from the NOC and plan for the performance of routine maintenance. Develop and maintain a disaster recovery plan for managed systems. Develop and control the IT security on the public safety specialized systems. Control the public safety vehicles wireless network stability after launch of new systems and/or upgrades to the systems.

Lead and direct the development of short and long-range plans related to the public safety specialized systems. Involves: Collect, interpret and prepare data for studies, reports and make recommendations to management. Coordinate activities between departments and agencies as required. Provide professional advice to department heads and top management as required. Assist the IT executive management with the procurement of hardware, software and maintenance of the public safety specialized systems. Assist with audits of such IT system.

Supervise assigned personnel. Involves: Schedule, assign, check and evaluate work. Enforce personnel rules and regulations, standards of conduct, work attendance, and safe working practices. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmonious working relationships among subordinates. Recommend salary adjustments, discipline and termination of employees. Prepare and review performance evaluations. Interview applicants and recommend selection, and changes in staffing levels and job designs.

Perform miscellaneous related professional and managerial functions as required.
