MOS CODES: B05A (Navy)

Education and Experience : A High school diploma, GED or higher and three (3) years of experience in servicing, installing, and testing of low voltage, high-speed copper and fiber network cabling for telephone, network, and audio/video systems.

Licenses and Certificates : A Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state is required.

Special Requirements : Applicants for positions assigned to the Department of Information Technology Services must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) finger-print based background check within the first six months from hire and maintain CJIS eligibility. CJIS requirements are related to system access and the following list of convictions and/or deferred adjudications will result in failure of the CJIS background check and disqualification and termination from employment: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.

General Purpose

Under general supervision, perform a variety of tasks related to the installation, testing and maintenance of communications cabling.

Typical Duties

Install a variety of communication cabling systems. Involves: Read and comprehend blueprints and building documentation to prepare for and install required cabling. Ensure that equipment and tools are on site to meet construction schedules and deadlines. Do cabling rough-in and terminations for all cable media. Install cabling and various cable supports such as cable trays, conduit, and hangers. Build-out of MDF and IDF such as racks, patch panels, wire managers, and network managers. Perform all work such as cable pulling, suspension, fireproofing, terminating, and testing in accordance with National Electrical Code (NEC) and other local codes and regulations.

Assist in the repair and maintenance of cabling systems. Involves: Utilizing cable test procedures and equipment, test the various systems and compile documentation for warranty submittal for all media types. Assist with all aspects of cabling projects as assigned, following all production, safety and quality standards and codes.

Perform related duties as required.
