Currently, there is one full-time Fire Services Coordinator vacancy in the Fire Department’s Administration Division. This position will focus on community relations for the department, including educational outreach, community events, fire station tours, and coordination with various departments and City staff on community engagement at various levels. The position also oversees the City’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program, including registration, program classes, volunteer opportunities, and more. The ideal candidate will be flexible, dynamic, and innovative to meet the changing needs of the department, and ready to take on exciting new challenges.

Selection Components:
  • Application Evaluation: Applications will be accepted on a continuous basis with the first review of applications on April 25, 2024 or at 150 applications - whichever occurs first .   • Virtual Interview: Tentatively scheduled for May 21, 2024 . Passing applicants will be placed on an eligibility list that may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.
Schedule:
This position is able to work a flexible schedule (e.g. 5/40, 9/80, or 4/10).

Retirement:

The City offers an excellent benefit package and membership in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). The retirement formula is based on appointment date and membership status with CalPERS and the employee is required to contribute 11.5% of pay toward the retirement benefit.

Experience & Education and License/Certificate

A combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities to qualify. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Three years of community preparedness program coordination experience. Fire or Marine Safety department experience is highly desirable.

Education: Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade. Additional college coursework or training in emergency preparedness is desirable for the Community Preparedness Services position.

License or Certificate: Due to the performance of some field duties, which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required.

For the Community Preparedness Services position, completion of the following FEMA courses must be completed within six months of hire:

• CERT Basic Course;

• Train the Trainer Course; and

• CERT Program Manager Course
