DESCRIPTION

THE POSITION
The City of Long Beach Technology & Innovation Department (TID) is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as a Senior Administrative Intern to help facilitate the digital transformation of previously manual processes. They will explore new technologies using various types of automation and low-code software. They will be responsible for researching and training in the use of UiPath, Microsoft Power Platform, and other future automation and low-code applications. The intern will assist with training sessions regarding low-code automation and development in monthly meetings with interested staff.

Non-Career employees are allowed a maximum of 1,600 work hours available over a 12 month period and are considered temporary, at-will employees who are not typically eligible for benefits. However, non-career employees may qualify for health coverage and sick leave accruals subject to applicable federal and state provisions.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Technology & Innovation Department (TID) plans and develops the technology infrastructure for the City and provides a centralized resource for technology deployment and support throughout the City. The Department integrates people, processes, and technology to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of City services through the work of its 181 FTEs while operating on a FY 2023 annual operating budget of nearly $70 million and multi-year capital projects budget of $101 million. TID is organized into five bureaus: Business Operations, Digital Services, Enterprise Information Services, Infrastructure Services, and Technology Engagement & Support. The Department also manages LBTV, a production studio that develops custom programming and distributes City multimedia content via its broadcast TV station and social media platforms. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

  • Interns will help facilitate the digital transformation of previously manual processes.
  • Interns will explore new technologies using various types of automation and low-code software.
  • Interns will be responsible for researching and training in the use of UiPath, Microsoft Power Platform, and other future automation and low-code applications.
  • Interns will assist and eventually lead training sessions regarding low code automation and development in monthly Teams meetings with interested city staff.


REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Currently standing as a Junior or Senior in an undergraduate program with a major in Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Development, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or related degree focus, from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.0 or higher (proof required) OR
  • Recently graduated from an undergraduate program (within one year of application submission) from an accredited college or university with a GPA of 2.0 or higher (proof required)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite of Apps.
  • At least one general coding class completed.
  • Familiarity with Office 365.
  • Familiarity with Python.
  • Familiarity with some automation tools, for example: Zapier, Power Automate, UiPath, Python, and Power Shell.
  • Familiarity with data visualizations tools like Power BI or Tableau.
  • Familiarity with some web development, for example: HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
