Major Duties Under general supervision of the Associate Director of Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), and in consultation with the EOP Director, the EOP Outreach Coordinator Freshmen Specialist supports advocates and facilitates the mission of California State University, Northridge, and the Educational Opportunity Program by discharging responsibilities that promote and encourage educationally disadvantaged and historically low-income students to seek higher educational opportunities specifically at CSU, Northridge, and EOP. The incumbent designs, develops, oversees, and facilitates EOP recruitment efforts to create a seamless pipeline of student applicants from key High Schools, Community Colleges, and the community into the Educational Opportunity Program at CSU, Northridge; primary focus will be with First-Time-Freshmen and Foster Youth.
- Creates designs, develops, oversees, and facilitates clustered partnerships with key High Schools identified as high demand/low yield potential.
- Responsible for the development of the First Time Freshmen component for the EOP Outreach Training Manual, including scripts for each element of the EOP admissions process as well as current campus resources, and other information relevant to both the university admissions and EOP admissions process.
- Assists with coordination of admission interviews and workshops; reviews applicant pool, assigns EOP application evaluations to EOP Satellites, schedules interview dates, onsite supervisor for EOP Admission Interviews, manages interview evaluations, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications - Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field. Upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques interviewing and conflict resolution where such are job related, is preferred.
- Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience; including one year in Educational Opportunity Program, preferred. Demonstrated experience working with multi-cultural/multi-ethnic populations, including historically underrepresented, underprepared, low-income, and first-generation college students is a plus.
- Direct experience with Educational Opportunity (EOP) and/or TRIO Programs is highly desirable.
- A Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience.
- Additional specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
- Valid California driver’s License and insured reliable transportation is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities - Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of the Student Services field as well as thorough knowledge of the policies, procedures and practices of the program area to which assigned. Thorough knowledge of the principles of individual and group behavior, individual counseling techniques.
- Thorough knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned. Working knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which immediately assigned.
- Ability to: analyze complex situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters; and determine appropriate courses of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals in personal interactions of an argumentative or sensitive nature.
- Ability to interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of problems brought forward by individuals or student organizations, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of professionally complex assignments without detailed instructions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of individuals.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule - The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver and more.
- Classification: SSP III / 3084 / grade 1
- The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $5025 - $5600 per month, dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for this classification is: $5025 - $7159 per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may include evenings and weekends. Ability to significantly and efficiently travel to multiple counties in California, sometimes to multiple sites per day, to perform in-person outreach visits primarily to high schools and nonprofit organizations. Travel includes, but is not limited to, Los Angeles, Ventura, Kern, Imperial, and San Bernardino Counties.
- This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period.
